Winter is coming, whether we like it or not, and that means cold and flu season is also coming. Most of us are too busy to spend days cooped up in bed and let’s be honest, most tablets don’t seem to make any difference so we are here to help. We have come up with our Natural Cold & Flu Remedies to beat the winter blues and have you feeling right as rain as soon as possible.

Reishi mushrooms

As we all know, mushrooms have a lot of benefits and healing qualities and the reishi mushroom is no exception! Known as ‘spirit fungus’, reishi mushrooms are valued in Chinese medicine for their ability to nourish the energy of the heart and promote longevity. Many studies have proven that mushrooms help train the immune system to better respond to threats and boost immune cells that attack viruses, as well as boosting the toxicity of natural killer cells. Who knew mushrooms were so big and strong?

Jujube dates

Jujube dates are yummy and very good for you. Although you need to be careful with how many you eat because they are super sweet, they could help beat our cold and flu symptoms. They contain 20 times more vitamin C than any citrus fruit, strengthening the immune system and fighting infection to beat the bad bacteria! Fun Fact: half a cup of jujube dates is 100% of your daily vitamin C requirement. Jujubes are also loaded with 18 of the most important amino acids which helps with the healing process to make you feel better, quicker!

The dates are also great for helping you fall asleep. If you are feeling unwell and struggling to sleep, you could try making a jujube tea to drink before bedtime. The jujube tea is warming so will help make your insides feel better.

Longan fruit

Meet the jujube dates partner in crime: the longan fruit. Also, known for being a warming fruit, longan works perfectly alongside jujubes in a warming, healing tea. Why not also throw in some goji berries for extra goodness?

Tantalising Chinese Tea: 

30g Vita dried longans

60g Vita jujube dates

500ml water

10g Vita goji berries

2 tbsp brown sugar

Combine the longans, dates and water in a medium pot on the stove. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. Add the goji berries and sugar and stir until dissolved. To serve, scoop some longans, goji berries and dates into a cup and pour in the liquid.

Longan fruit also contains a whole lot of vitamin C which improves your defence mechanism and is essential for improving skin health – making you healthy on the inside and out.
